In 2020 that wanderlust had us booked on the last leg of Vikings first "Round-the-World Cruise. Our plan was to fly to London / fly to India / go through the Suez Canal and sail through the Mediterranean with stops in Malta; Sardinia; Grenada; Porto and back to London in 42 days.
Well, we all know what happened with that trip.
Fast forward to 2021, when we found our current adventure. Fly to London. Fly to India. Sightsee New Delhi; Agra; Jaipur; Mumbai. Board the Viking Mars. Sail for 20 day with stops in Oman; Saudi Arabia; Jordan; Egypt, and Israel before turning north to disembark in Greece. After a few days in Athens, home via Paris for a total journey of 38 days.
I started this blog in 2022 (naively thinking we would actually sail) at the suggestion of a friend who wanted to keep track of us as we sailed a Covid infested world.
Then, there were riots in India. Today as we prepare to depart in two weeks, Paris is burning over a proposed change in the retirement age. There are skirmishes all around Israel. But hell, for the moment, Saudi Arabia appears to be stable
There are moments I wonder "What were we thinking?"
In equal measures we are excited and terrified. We've never been away for this long (or stuck with each other in such close quarters for this amount of time). As we go forward, I will rely on one of the expressions that has steered us through our life: "It will be an adventure."
Oh, and we've both been known to be terribly seasick.
